Text Message Notification System

To help ensure that COCC students and staff are promptly informed regarding emergency and other important announcements, COCC has implemented a text messaging based alert system.

To ensure COCC does not abuse users through over use of the text message system, text messages will only be sent for urgent alerts which have a potential broad impact.

Using this system is a great way to get information on snow closures or emergency situations on campus!

COCC Emergency Text Message Sign-up

Any staff or student of COCC can sign-up for this service by logging in to COCC's “Student and Staff Online Services” system.

  1. Log in to COCC's Student and Staff Online Services.
  2. Click on the "Student Services & Financial Aid" tab.
  3. Click on the “Opt Into/Out of Text Message” link.
  4. Follow the instructions on the page and you will be added to our text notification list.

In order to make changes to your text messaging settings later simply follow the above steps again and edit your settings as desired.

Example Usage Scenario

The COCC cell phone text message notification system worked well during our January 2008 snow closures. When the road and parking lot conditions deteriorated on the Bend campus due to the snow and the college announced that the Bend campus was going to close at 1 pm, anyone who had signed up for the cell phone text messaging service and selected the Opt In Level of “High Importance” received a text message notification shortly after the college posted the closure information on the COCC web site.
