Troubleshooting and Alternate Connection Methods

The Desktop login link will prompt for additional software install (if needed) and automatically connect if the following are true:

1.  You are a COCC staff member
2.  You are using Internet Explorer
3.  You have Windows XP SP1 or SP2

If you meet these requirements and still have trouble you can try to install Microsoft patch manually and try again.

If it appears to install the patch but you still can't connect add "https://coccts.ad.cocc.edu" to your trusted sites. In IE7 select Tools/Internet Options/Security/Trusted Sites. Be sure to leave the checkmark in Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.

NOTE: Windows users should NOT use the built in Remote Desktop Connection client as it is not secure when used with this system.

If you have installed Service Pack 3 for windows XP or if you have Vista or Macintosh OSX see below

 Macintosh Users

Macintosh users can access this service if they first install the Remote desktop Client for Mac 2

Afterward you can launch the  Remote Desktop Connection.  In the Server Box of the client type "coccts.ad.cocc.edu"

 Problem with XP SP3

After applying Windows XP SP3 you may receive the following message when trying to access Remote Campus Desktop

This portion of the Remote Web Workplace requires the Microsoft Remote Desktop ActiveX Control.  Your browswer’s security settings may be preventing you from downloading ActiveX controls.  Adjust these settings, and try to connect again.

This error is a result of a disabled Microsoft Terminal Service ActiveX control Add-On.  To fix the problem:

  1. Within Internet Explorer, open Tools - Internet Options - Programs tab - Select Manage add-ons
  2. Highlight the Microsoft Terminal Service ActiveX control, which will be set to disabled.
  3. Select Enabled - OK
  4. Restart Internet Explorer.

If you are using Windows XP SR-3 operating system, and trying to login into the Terminal Services Remote Desktop, but when you  login into the Terminal Services, you get the error message as “ActiveX control is not installed or not enabled”. AND if you
tried to enable the Add-ons from the Tools option from IE, but the Terminal Services ActiveX Client control is not listed as option to either enable or disable.

This happens when the server is not a Trusted Site. So just follow the below steps to add the site as Trusted Site in Internet Explorer:

1) Open Internet Explorer.
2) Click on Tools and then Internet Options.
3) Under Internet Options, click on Security tab.
4) Then, click on Trusted Sites and click on Sites button.
5) Add your remote access website to the Trusted Sites list.
