Desktop Computers
The college has adopted a desktop PC life cycle which involves purchasing approximately 175 new computers every year so that our main life cycle fleet can be upgraded every 4 years. As computers move in to their 5th year they are moved to our trickle-down and surplus fleets where they are used to meet secondary and emergency needs. Upon reaching their 6th year, computers will be donated to area schools.
All benefited employees who rely on a computer to do their work will have their computer upgraded within COCC's 4 year lifecycle. This includes all full-time faculty and staff, as well as benefited part-time employees when appropriate. Existing computer labs are also included in COCC's lifecycle, unless funded by outside sources. In general, casual use computers and part-time faculty offices are equipped with 5th year trickle-down computers.
New lifecycle replacement computer requests should be submitted for approval during COCC's budget cycle using the Technology Capital Request procedure.
NOTE: Workstation lifecycle replacement depends upon COCC being able to find and allocate appropriate funds each year.

Laptop/Tablet Computers
Laptops are not currently a part of COCC’s lifecycle processes, however COCC's technology capital request procedure includes a section to help guide laptop purchases.
Printers
ITS will support and replace approved capital networked printers as a part of a regular lifecycle process. Departments purchasing personal (non-networked) printers purchased outside of capital purchase procedures can receive installation help from IT; however departments are then responsible for all repair and replacement needs.
